THE CIVETTA CIRCUIT

The captivating Civetta Circuit, spread over two days, promises an unforgettable experience amidst the majestic Dolomites. The journey begins from Palafavera, a starting point nestled at the foot of Mount Civetta with ample parking. The route unfolds through breathtaking landscapes, offering an immersive and unforgettable experience.

Day 1

Palafavera to Rifugio Vazzoler

From Rifugio Palafavera (1,525 m), follow trail 564 to the Pioda hut (1,816 m). From there, continue on trail 556 to Rifugio Coldai (2,132 m). A short climb leads to Forcella Coldai (2,191 m). From here, take the Alta Via delle Dolomiti, which leads to the enchanting Lago Coldai (2,143 m).

Along the Alta Via, the imposing wall of Civetta stretches into the sky for over a thousand meters. Continuing across the plateau of Val Civetta, begin the descent along trail 560. At the junction with trail 563, follow it to reach Rifugio A. Tissi (2,260 m) and the peak of Col Rean (2,281 m).

Continue following the Alta Via delle Dolomiti 1 (trail 560). The trail leads to Sella di Pelsa (1,954 m) and finally to Rifugio M. Vazzoler (1,714 m). The refuge, seemingly straight out of a fairy tale, is hidden among the forest trees. When dinner arrives, it is a long-awaited relief, surrounded by the magic of the mountains that turn pink at sunset.

Day 2

Rifugio Vazzoler to Palafavera

From Rifugio M. Vazzoler (1,714 m), begin the descent following the forest road 555. At a junction, continue on trail 558, where you can admire the impressive views of Torre Trieste and Busazza.

Continuing along the trail, we enter the basin known as “Van delle Sasse”, situated between Civetta and Cima delle Sasse, a valley among the mountains, both breathtaking and unique. Staying on the same trail, we head towards Forcella delle Sasse (2,476 m), which is the highest point of our route. From the pass, descend through a scree field, where extra caution is needed, then veer onto trail 557 of the Zoldano loop (Tivan path). Along this section, there are some metal ropes to facilitate passage, but it is important to note that a via ferrata kit is not required for this route. However, utmost caution is still recommended. Finally, we reach Rifugio Coldai. From here, we retrace our steps down the initial part of the route from the previous day back to Palafavera.

Day 2
